Business mergers and new obstacles

Merging three businesses together, digitising your organisation and moving premises are three challenges that can throw up all kinds of obstacles. Now, imagine doing all three of them in the same year in the midst of a global pandemic.

This was the situation facing Rob Arnold, Group Business Manager at Greyville.

“All of this had multiple impacts on the business and staff on many different levels,” Rob concedes.

With Covid-19 and an increase in demand also affecting the company’s supply chain, Rob looked to BCU’s Help to Grow – an expert-led, practical business leadership programme – for support after discovering them on LinkedIn.

The results – Improving staff development and redefining values

Taking part in Help to Grow’s 12-week course enables participants to boost their performance, resilience and long-term growth by addressing key challenges and opportunities.

This was certainly the case for Rob and Greyville, who have now implemented clearer approaches in all areas of their business.

“Everyone now understands how we operate and anyone can work from these standard operating procedures, reducing the amount of risk to our organisation,” Rob explains.

Rob has also been able to gain a clearer understanding on what motivates their staff.

“Better knowledge of our goals and vision has been a huge change for our business,” Rob says. “We now work with each staff member on helping them develop, creating continuing professional staff development plans.”

Rob is especially thankful to Help to Grow for helping Greyville navigate the complex areas of staff development and redefining company core values.

“These are two key areas that have now been implemented,” Rob confirms. “The course really gave me direction on both of them.”

“Incredibly beneficial” business support

Rob strongly recommends Help to Grow to any business leaders who want to excel and cope with high-growth strategies, as well as those looking to bolster staff development.

“This course covers the fundamental building blocks, as well as a platform to develop a robust plan and strategy for your organisation,” Rob enthuses.

“It’s delivered by knowledgeable experts in each field and there’s also a real camaraderie with your peers in the cohort. It’s incredibly beneficial and any business can benefit.”
